The Sister Cities Association of Sioux Falls' mission is to promote friendship, understanding, and to learn and accept cultural similarities and difference with foreign cities that are similar in size and population.

THE SISTER CITIES PROGRAM

In 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower propsed the people-to-people concept. He thought that relationships fostered in this program would lessen the possibility of future world conflicts. This concept grew and became Sister Cities International (SCI), a non-profit citizen diplomacy network working to create and strengthen partnerships between U.S. and international communities in an effort to incrase global cooperation at the municipal level. In this way, we are able to promote cultural understanding and to stimulate economic development.
